It is a known and accepted fact that antonyms can be nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and prepositions. This work aims to transfer and apply the confirmed lexical interpretations of antonyms and antonymy to phrasemes. One of the classifications of antonyms is based on the nature of the relationship between the opposed meanings which includes binary or complementary, gradable and reversible antonyms. Is this kind of classification applicable when we are talking about phrasemes? When are we talking about phraseme antonyms with the same morphological root and when about primary ones? Is there a possibility to create phraseme antonym pairs and phraseme antonym groups? In which group could we classify those phrasemes whose components are in mutual contraposition? These are some of the questions to which I try to provide an answer in this paper. The examples used in the work are taken from the corpus of Croatian phraseology. Since this is a topic that is rarely discussed and researched, it may well represent an impulse and contribution towards further research.
