In this paper we attempt to reconstruct the conceptualization of the head as reservoir and its fixed image in the Chinese, the Polish, the Hungarian and the German phraseology. It is clear from the analysis presented in this article that for the reconstruction of the concept of head as a fixed image in the given languages, a cognitive base containing several domains must be taken into account. The richness and diversity of the language material and the big number of ways of poly-categorical conceptualization proves that the linguistic image of the world behind the word 'head' truly reflects the extraordinary importance of this part of the human body in his life.
