Our study surveys how appears the shape of the “drunken man” in the Hungarian phraseological units. Remarkable number of the proverbs and idiomatic phrases deal with the euphemistic visualization of the drunken man. In these units the drunken man is compared to something to bear resemblance (usually a sort of animal, a drum, an accommodation), or he is identified by his indispensable member for drinking (head, throat, hopper, stomach), or rather his outer somatic stamps (step, head keeping, complexion etc.), his mental skills, his speech peculiarities (stammer, verbiage), and his actions (greeting, distraction of others, fear from definite things, etc.), or just the deal of taken alcoholic drink.
