The article deals with the dual aspect of the slang word 'PSY' (meaning: dogs) in the Polish language used to denote police(men), whereby the different partakers of the communication interpret the word in notably different ways. Members of the underworld use the word with insulting, contemptuous intent, whereas police themselves focusing on the positive attributes of dogs don't perceive it that way. The explanation to the phenomenon lies in the standing dual linguistic image of the characteristics of dogs.
