It was a long time debate whether we can speak of the seccesion trend in literature. The fact that the style of secession is accepted in literature is principally owed to the reforming work of Zoltán Szabó and his collegues. Its demarcation from similar trends such as impressionism and symbolism requires further inspection. In my essay I will describe the grammatic attributes of secession, sensitivity, illusions, decorative patterns taken from art, decorative style and at least but not last word and sentence framing that has a spindle-like construction in Margit Kaffka’s short stories written between 1909 and 1913. According to my essay the following assumption can be drawn: the main characteristics of Margit Kaffka’s use of language are decorative styles and symbols, decorative sensitivity and images drawn from the world of art and from the East. She frequently applies lyric tools in her literal works and likes to apply wavering and spindle-like sentences. On the other hand she rarely uses the style of images and static discription. Perhaps there is a tendency of less decorativity in her writings as the years pass on and her style becomes rather simplified.
